Bio
Peter
Gianaros is a health neuroscientist who conducts research on the neurobiology
of psychological stress, health disparities, and cardiovascular disease (CVD)
risk, with a focus on health disparities patterned by individual- and
neighborhood-level dimensions of socioeconomic status. His work focuses on the
biological and behavioral pathways that link socioeconomic disadvantage to poor
brain health, as well as the brain systems that might promote physical disease
risk over the lifespan. With Anna Marsland and Steve Manuck at the University
of Pittsburgh, he is currently examining the role of immune and metabolic
factors in accounting for aspects of brain health linked to socioeconomic
disadvantage. As faculty in the Department of Psychology and the Pitt-CMU
Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition, he serves as the Program Director of
Biobehavioral Studies of Cardiovascular Disease (NHLBI P01-040962)(http://bnl.pitt.edu).
